Kean/Gregg/Norquist: Soft on Terrorism?

Republican US Senate candidate Tom Kean's top cheerleader, Assemblyman Guy Gregg, organized a Halloween pep rally for Kean featuring disgraced conservative activist Grover Norquist.  The event takes place this morning at the Tuesday Group, a north Jersey based monthly conservative strategy meeting.

Gregg, who has served as Norquist's top lieutenant in New Jersey for several years, has been a Kean attack dog throughout the Senate campaign, accusing Senator Bob Menendez of being soft on terrorism, immigration, and crime.

Gregg's boss Norquist has his own problems in these areas.  Norquist's lobbying firm was registered as a lobbyist for Abdurahman Alamoudi, founder of the American Muslim Council.   Alamoudi is on record praising the terrorist group Hezbollah and proclaiming: "We are all followers of Hamas."

Alamoudi provided seed money for Norquist's Islamic Institute, which shares space with Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform group. The institute is run by Alamoudi deputy Khaled Saffuri.

Today Alamoudi is serving a twenty-three year prison sentence for involvement in terrorist activities. Alamoudi was identified by federal authorities as a key financier for al Qaeda in America.

Alamoudi was also a co-founder of the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF), along with Sami Al-Arian--the former University of South Florida professor charged as a fund raiser and organizer for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group. In 2001, Al-Arian presented Norquist with an award for his work on behalf of his organization.

On the immigration issue, Norquist's lobbying on behalf of terrorist groups has landed him in hot water with some of his friends on the right.  Michelle Malkin has called him an "arch-immigration enthusiast".

And in a series of articles this summer, the Washington Post detailed the money laundering operation Norquist ran for Jack Abramoff.  The articles cite now public e-mails uncovered by Senate investigators and the FBI "concerning arrangements between the two that would appear to involve the laundering of Abramoff clients' funds through Norquist's tax-exempt Americans for Tax Reform (ATR)."

Maybe someone on the Menendez campaign will remind Gregg/Kean of this next time the one launches an attack on behalf of the other?
